London-based murals artist, Mark McClure, has used Leyland Trade Smooth Masonry paint to help transform the outer walls of a five-storey hostel in London, adding colour and creativity for the local community.
Due to its dull and dated façade, the Brigstock House refugee hostel in Thornton Heath was regarded by local residents as an eyesore. The redecoration of the building was organised by the nearby Rise Gallery, and funded by Croydon Council. The teams called on Mark, who is known for his unique art installations, to create a vibrant and visually appealing design for the building.
Mark explained: “More often than not, masonry paint can be both expensive and hard to get hold of in a good range of bright colours. Leyland paint can be mixed in a wide variety of colours, so it’s ideal for an outdoor mural and is readily available.”
Leyland Trade’s Smooth Masonry offered Mark and his team a tough, durable coating that could provide excellent resistance to dirt and weathering. The paint is formulated with anti-carbonation properties, minimising the risk of damage caused by carbon dioxide from car exhausts fumes. It also offers an expected lifetime of 15 years – meaning the local community can enjoy the newly vibrant building for years to come.
Mark concluded: “I use Leyland Trade for a lot of my projects now, because I know I can get hold of a good range of colours.”
