The £8 million project to redevelop Penucheldre, a retirement complex based in Holyhead on Anglesey, was a huge undertaking with the existing flats on the site being knocked down and replaced with 54 purpose built flats. Centred around a communal area with a restaurant, lounge, hobbies room, fitness room, laundry and hair salon, the flats provide modern accommodation for the over-60s.

R M Owen, tasked with painting the new flats and communal areas of the building, worked around 150 other tradespeople on site, relying on products from Leyland’s comprehensive range of trade paints to provide the perfect finish.

Leyland Trade’s Contract Matt, from the Contract range, which is specially formulated for application on new work, was used in both magnolia and white on the walls and ceilings throughout the building, to create a smooth, full bodied matt finish.

For the interior woodwork, all of which was painted a bright, clean white, the team opted to use Leyland Trade Eggshell, to provide a hardwearing, washable finish, ideal for high traffic environments. Leyland Trade Acrylic Primer, a water-based undercoat was applied direct to bare timber surfaces and is both low odour and quick drying, ensuring the project was completed on time.

The concept of extra care accommodation is still fairly new and Penucheldre, which has revolutionised care for the over-60s in the area, is the first scheme of its kind on Anglesey. Thanks to Leyland paint, the new flats will continue to sparkle for years to come.
